چکیده

Abstract The blazar TXS 0506+056 got into the spotlight of astrophysical community in 2017 September, when a high-energy neutrino detected by IceCube (IceCube-170922A) was associated at 3 ? level with ? -ray flare from this source. This multi-messenger photon-neutrino association remains, as per today, most significant ever observed. poorly studied object before IceCube-170922A event. To better characterize its broadband emission, we organized multiwavelength campaign lasting 16 months (2017 November to 2019 February), covering radio band (Metsähovi, OVRO), optical/UV (ASAS-SN, KVA, REM, Swift/UVOT), X-rays (Swift/XRT, NuSTAR), rays (Fermi/LAT), and very (VHE) (MAGIC). In rays, behavior source significantly different 2017: MAGIC observations show presence flaring activity during 2018 December, while only shows an excess 4 rest (74 hr accumulated exposure); Fermi/LAT several short (on timescale days week) flares, long-term brightening 2017. No flares are lower energies. light curve increasing flux trend that is not seen other wavelengths. We model spectral energy distributions lepto-hadronic scenario, which hadronic emission emerges Bethe-Heitler pion-decay cascade VHE rays. According presented here, December connected too brief bright enough be current instruments.

A Study of High Energy Emission from the TeV blazar Mrk 501 during Multiwavelength Observations in 1996

We present the results of a multiwavelength campaign for Mrk 501 performed in March 1996 with ASCA, EGRET , Whipple, and optical telescopes. The X–ray flux observed with ASCA was 5 times higher than the quiescent level and gradually decreased by a factor of 2 during the observation in March 1996. In the X–ray band, a spectral break was observed around 2 keV. We report here for the first time th...

Sharp Polarimetric Eyes: More Trees than Forest?

The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi) has focused the intensive multi-wavelength and international observational effort on blazars since it was launched in 2008. Part of this effort involves systematic monitoring of the highly variable polarization of the continuum emission from these objects. These observations are valuable in that they provide direct information on the degree of orderin...

Seeing through the Eyes of the Citizens during Emergencies

Availability and access to information is critical for providing a highly effective response to an ongoing event – however, often information reported by citizens over the phone may be unclear, inaccurate, biased or subjective, based on the context of the reporter. This can often lead to inadequate response to an emergency, which can in turn result in loss of property or worse, lives. On the ot...

Multiwavelength metasurfaces through spatial multiplexing

Metasurfaces are two-dimensional arrangements of optical scatterers rationally arranged to control optical wavefronts. Despite the significant advances made in wavefront engineering through metasurfaces, most of these devices are designed for and operate at a single wavelength. Here we show that spatial multiplexing schemes can be applied to increase the number of operation wavelengths. We use ...

Through the artist's eyes.

TWENTY-FIVE years ago last month Mr Ernest Morrison FRCS kindly asked me to look after a man whose character and courage I came greatly to admire and whose close friendship I was privileged to enjoy during the remaining five years of his life. Zoltan Lewinter-Frankl was born in Hungary in 1894 and the family later moved to Vienna. Such was his love of paintings that by the age of 16 he had alre...
